After years of waiting, Apple finally launched its first-ever foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, sparking a wild internet reaction.
According to The Verge, led by newly minted CEO John Ternus, the tech giant unveiled the iPhone Duo during the company’s Surprise and Shine event on Wednesday, September 9, using Apple’s familiar “one more thing” setup as part of the introduction.
The new phone has a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner screen, two back cameras, Touch ID for authentication, an IP68 rating, and all sorts of slick software tricks to make iOS feel more at home on the new device.
Internet reacts to the new iPhone Duo
The new phone sparked widespread social media reaction and expected comparison with its biggest global competitor, Samsung.
A user wrote, “Apple fans in 2026 discovering what Samsung users had in 2019.”
One person asked, “What is the difference between this iPhone Duo and an iPad mini?”
“Too big to be a phone, too small to be an iPad. Paying a premium just to get the worst of both worlds? Nahh, thanks,” a user noted.
Meanwhile, another was already imagining the possibilities, “Gaming on iPhone Duo will be mad, tho.”
The prize of the new phone was also one of the hot topics among the social media users, as most of the fans found it overpriced.
“I know y'all can't be surprised the iPhone Duo is $2K; what makes you think a new iPhone would be reasonably priced?” one post read.
Another user offered a slightly different view, “Adulthood is realizing I don't need the iPhone Duo and, in fact, would likely drop it within the first 3 days of owning it.”
One user has the most genuine question, “How tf are you going to put a case on that?"
Preorders start on October 16th ahead of availability on October 23rd, and it starts at $1,999 for 256GB of storage.
