The Gentlemen’s latest season has failed to attract audience like before.
On Friday, September 11, Deadline reported that the second installment of Guy Ritchie’s hit black comedy crime drama series faced a crushing blow after its release, as it could not manage to attract the number of viewers the show’s first season had.
A week after its premiere on Netflix on September 3, 2026, the show’s first episode has been watched by 3 million British viewers.
According to the update, The Gentlemen Season 2’s viewership were around 15% lower than those of Season 1’s debut episode, which attracted 3.5 million viewers upon its release in March 2024, marking a sharp half a million loss in the figures.
The figures were shared by Overnights.tv through Barb, the UK’s official TV audience measurement body.
Notably, Overnight’s figures differ from that of Netflix as the latter counts views, rather than measuring the number of viewers.
Meghan Markle tapped in to join The Gentlemen
The shocking setback for The Gentlemen comes amid the ongoing buzz surrounding Meghan Markle’s casting in the show.
Recently, it was reported that the Duchess of Sussex has been eyed to join the Netflix show, marking a major acting comeback for her.
However, shortly after the rumors began swirling online, fans took to social media to voice their strong opposition to Meghan potentially joining the series.
It was worth mentioning that Meghan Markle’s casting has not been confirmed or denied by Netflix and The Gentlemen team.
The show has been renewed for a third season, with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario set to begin filming in the UK.
