WhatsApp is working on the latest feature that could simplify it for users to remember their contacts' birthdays.
As per WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned platform is developing birthday reminders for its forthcoming Contacts tab on iOS.
The feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.38.10.18 through TestFlight. It will automatically show a birthday reminder next to a contact when their birthday is saved in the phone’s address book.
Whenever a contact has a birthday, WhatsApp will show a cake emoji and a “Birthday today” label below their name in the Contacts tab.
The reminder will remain visible throughout the day, letting users to notice it whenever they launch the section and possibly send a birthday message without needing a separate calendar reminder.
With this significant update, users engaged with WhatsApp to enter birthday information manually within the messaging app. Rather, it will retrieve the data from the phone’s Contacts app. Users can now edit a contact’s birthday via the address book, after which WhatsApp can show the information in the Contacts tab.
The birthday feature is part of WhatsApp’s broader development of a dedicated Contacts tab for iOS. The forthcoming section is likely to include information such as contacts who are online or recently active.
Availability
WhatsApp's birthday reminder feature currently remains under development, with initial launch only expected for the beta testers in the near future. WhatsApp is testing it internally as it continues to refine the new Contacts experience.
WhatsApp has yet to officially announce when the feature will be available for beta testers and the iPhone users.
