D4vd, who has been making headlines for his alleged involvement in the death of a teenage girl, has a new lawyer after his legal team abruptly withdrawn from the murder trial.
What are D4vd's lawyer's fresh demands?
Now, his public defender has requested face-to-face access to the jailed singer, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, noting that the two need to sit down privately to discuss the evidence prosecutors may use against him, and to bring a laptop to the meeting.
D4vd is currently behind the bars as he awaits trail in the killing of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose dismembered body was found in the trunk of a Tesla registered under the singer's name in September 2025 at a Hollywood tow yard.
The disturbing case made headlines globally amid the potential romance between the then-20-year-old singer and Celeste Rivas, who was not 15 when her body was discovered.
What did the public defender say about the request?
According to Deputy Public Defender Walid Kandeel, the requests are necessary so he can review the large amount of evidence in the case with his client.
In a September 15 declaration, Kandeel wrote that he needs to examine all of the discovery prosecutors may use against D4vd, specifcally pointing to "social media content" and "possible video evidence".
Judge grants D4vd's lawyer's request
Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo granted the request, ordering the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to allow Kandeel, attorney Nicole Joens and/or paralegal Rosemary Lopez to interview the singer "face-to-face" in a private area approved by the department, with no physical obstruction in between.
A major shakeup in D4vd's defence
The surprising update came after a high-profile criminal defense attorney Blair Berk unexpectedly withdrew from the case during D4vd's August 31 arraignment.
D4vd to face possible life sentence
D4vd is set to go on a trial for the murder of Celeste after Judge Olmedo found that prosecutors have found enough evidence against the singer in the five-day preliminary hearing set in July.
If convicted, D4vd would face a possible sentence of death or life without the possibility of parole.
D4vd and Celeste's shared 'sexual' relationship
He was arrested on April 16 from the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles. Moreover, messages shared between D4vd and Celeste suggested that she had been pregnant at 13 and undergone an abortion.
D4vd was also accused of stabbing the teen multiple times, watching her bleed to death and attempting to dispose of evidence.
Her badly decomposed remains were later found in two bags in the front trunk of his abandoned Tesla.
Celeste disappeared from Lake Elsinore in February 2024, when she was just 13.
Prosecutors allege D4vd had been sexually abusing Celeste before killing her and later mutilating and concealing her remains.
Los Angeles also reported that the family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez has also filed a wrongful death civil suit against D4vd, his mother, and others in his inner circle.
