US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday that he will address the nation in a prime-time televised speech on Wednesday night to discuss his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Biden said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting, "Tomorrow evening at 8 PM ET, I will address the nation from the Oval Office on what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people."

Biden, who has been recovering from COVID-19, revealed his decision to step down on Sunday, July 21, through a letter posted on social media.

He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming election.

In his letter, Biden explained that stepping aside is in the best interest of the country and the Democratic Party.

"While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," he wrote.

The President will return to the White House from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he has been self-isolating, on Tuesday afternoon.
