Sinéad O’Connor’s cause of death has been unveiled exactly one year after her death.

The Irish singer who passed away on July 26, 2023 in London was said to be died by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, as per the death certificate registered by her husband John Reynolds.

However, on July 27, 2024, it has been reported that the Nothing Compares 2 U singer also dealing with a respiratory tract infection, which contributed to her death.

In January, a spokesperson of Southwark Coroner’s Court in London revealed that O’Connor had died “of natural causes” and that the coroner had “therefore ceased their involvement in her death.”

At the time of her death last year, Police revealed O’Connor had been found “unresponsive” at an apartment in London.

Sinéad O’Connor shared a statement to RTÉ at the time noted, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.”

They added, “Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

A year before her death in June, the musician cancelled her shows to after her 17-year-old son Shane died by suicide at age 17.

“We would like to respectfully announce that due to continuing grief over the tragic loss of her beloved son Shane earlier this year, Sinead O’Connor will not be performing live in 2022,” O’Connor’s team wrote in a statement at that time.

“Thank you to Sinead’s friends and fans whose support and understanding we hold in the highest esteem throughout this period. The love being shown has been a source of great comfort and peace for Sinead,” they added.
