Joe Biden has called for multiple reforms before the US Supreme Court on Monday, July 29, ahead of the November presidential elections.

According to The Guardian, the US president, in an op-ed published letter, demanded a constitutional amendment to limit the judges' terms in office and to remove immunity for the crimes committed by a president.

Biden wrote, “This nation was founded on a simple yet profound principle: No one is above the law. Not the president of the United States. Not a justice on the Supreme Court of the United States.”

He further added, “I have great respect for our institutions and separation of powers. What is happening now is not normal, and it undermines the public’s confidence in the court’s decisions, including those impacting personal freedoms. We now stand in a breach.”

Moreover, the 81-year-old also called for the justices’ terms to be limited to 18 years through a system in which a new justice would be appointed to the Supreme Court by the President every two years.

Biden also urged for strict rules of conduct for justices that will require them to disclose gifts, refrain from political activity, and withdraw from cases where they or their spouses have financial interests.
