Tata Sons chairman and veteran industrialist, Ratan Tata will get a state funeral on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

According to NDTV, the chairman emeritus of the Tata group died late on Wednesday in a Mumbai hospital at the age of 86. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday due to age-related health issues.

The chief minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, announced that Tata would be cremated with full state honors, and the national flag would be flown at half-mast across the state government offices.

The state government has declared a day of mourning on Thursday.

Moreover, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the death of a business tycoon and called him “a visionary business leader and an extraordinary human being."

He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “He provided stable leadership to one of India's oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to making our society better.”

The former industrialist body will be kept at the National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai's Nariman Point from 10 am to 4 pm, for the last respect of loved ones.

Tata will be cremated in the Worli area in central Mumbai, Maharashtra, later on Thursday.
