2025 has been an incredible year for video games, but 2026 will be even bigger and better.
The most anticipated game set to release next year is easily Grand Theft Auto VI. When GTA6 finally launches, it will be around 13 years since the previous mainline game in the series.
it is one of dozens of games to look forward to, though. Resident Evil Requiem will see the return of fan-favorite character Leon S. Kennedy, Fable is another return with high expectations.
Here is the list of some of the most anticipated video games coming out in 2026.
Grand Theft Auto VI
Grand Theft Auto VI is unquestionably the single most anticipated video game of 2026.
The long-awaited sequel by developer Rockstar Games is expected to drop in November, 13 years on from the record-breaking GTA V.
The game was due to be released in autumn 2025 but was pushed back to May 2026 before once again being delayed.
Rockstar said the extra time would allow the team to "finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."
Fable
The long-awaited Fable reboot is expected to drop sometime in 2026 following a delay from its initial 2025 release window.
It will be the first new instalment in the action-RPG franchise since Fable: The Journey in 2012.
The series has been on a hiatus since Microsoft's cancellation of Fable Legends and the subsequent closure of original developers Lionhead Studios in 2016.
Playground Games, behind the successful Forza Horizon series, is developing the reboot for parent company Xbox Game Studios.
007 First Light
007 First Light is a James Bond origin story and will follow the resourceful recruit during his time within the MI6 training programme ahead of becoming the world-famous spy we know and love.
The action-adventure game is due to be released in May - having been pushed back from March - and is inspired by Ian Fleming's novels and short stories.
The original narrative is expected to follow Bond as he embarks on a mission that will earn him his licence to kill.
This is the first Bond game since 007 Legends in 2012.
Resident Evil Requiem
Capcom takes us back to Raccoon City with Resident Evil Requiem.
The survival horror game is scheduled to be released in February, with the developers promising a "heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core".
Fans will be introduced to a new leading lady, FBI intelligence analyst Grace Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from the Resident Evil Outbreak games.
Reanimal
A two-player animated horror game in the Tim Burton mode, minus all the whimsy. In a setup reminiscent of the famously discomfiting games Limbo and Inside, a brother and sister must escape a twisted mockery of their home town, finding their friends as they go.
They are stalked by horrible spike-limbed monsters and grotesquely reanimated creatures. Genuinely frightening and artistically impressive.
The game will be available for the players on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation5, Xbox on 13 February.
Resident Evil Requiem
Capcom’s horror series is very old, but it still comes up with new ways to make your skin crawl. In Requiem we play as bookish Grace, whom the game’s director calls “the biggest scaredy-cat in Resident Evil history”, and the confidently combat-proficient cop Leon S Kennedy, pursued by monsters through the iconic Raccoon City.
Video-game enthusiasts will be able to enter the scary world on February 27th on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox.
Pokémon Pokopia
Imagine dropping Pokémon into the world of Animal Crossing, with a hint of Minecraft’s blocky aesthetic. This family-friendly Nintendo game has you building and tending habitats for Nintendo’s beloved creatures.
Players will play as a Ditto, the shape-shifting pink blob, which can helpfully transform into other Pokémon, using those other critters’ abilities to bring a barren landscape back to life and build a vibrant town.
The game will be come out on March 5, 2026.
