Smoothie King issued a statement after two employees refused to serve a man wearing a hoodie with President Donald Trump's name.
As reported by The New York Post, two Smoothie King employees were fired from their positions in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after they refused to serve a man and his wife due to a hoodie featuring President Trump's name.
The man's wife, identified by The Post as Erika Lindemyer, posted a video to TikTok on Monday, which showed a heated exchange with two Smoothie King employees.
"We were just wanting a smoothie, and you literally looked at us, and I asked you if everything was okay, and you said, 'We don't feel comfortable serving you' because of my husband's hoodie. This is discrimination," the woman said.
One of the employees replied, "Okay, well, have a great day."
"That is illegal," the man's wife said, to which another employee said, "I said Trump discriminates (against) us."
In a reaction to the incident, Smoothie King issued a statement on its X account, noting, "As a brand, Smoothie King is committed to ensuring our stores are a place free of discrimination of any kind, where every guest and team member is treated with care and respect."
"Following an investigation into an incident involving a guest who was refused service at a franchised location in Michigan yesterday," they added.
"Both the franchise owner and Smoothie King corporate have reached out to the guest several times to apologize and will continue to follow up," the statement read.
It was shared that the owner will take "further action" and enforce "mandatory retraining for all employees that outlines our guest experience standards."
