Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington sent shockwaves across the league after making public allegations against her ex-partner, Las Vegas Aces forward NaLyssa Smith.
In a sudden post on Threads, Carrington alleged that Smith cheated on her with multiple professional basketball players during their relationship. Carrington wrote, “Since mfs wanna be funny today ima be hilarious!” before adding, “yes, nalyssa cheated on me with Deja Kelly and Aaliyah Nye+++ many more.”
Naming multiple WNBA players
The viral post drew immediate attention because Carrington directly named fellow players Deja Kelly and Aaliyah Nye. Carrington and Smith first started dating in 2020 as teammates at Baylor University. Carrington had previously described their split by saying:
“We’re good but we’re not together anymore,” and explaining, “It was on good terms – we just grew in different directions,” making these new claims a sharp departure from her earlier statement.
Players respond to the fallout
Responding to the accusations, Smith addressed the situation during a livestream, asking why Carrington brought up claims a year after their split while adding that her ex was “adding the names of players while reportedly being involved with her Aces teammate Jackie Young.”
Neither Kelly nor Nye has issued an official statement regarding the claims.
Fans and league take notice
The allegations triggered massive discussion across social media, dividing fans into supporters defending Carrington’s right to speak and critics questioning the public handling of personal affairs.
Meanwhile, Carrington is focusing on making her season debut for Chicago after recovering from a foot injury.
