One of Iran’s state-run media agencies has posted a video targeting First Lady Melania Trump with assassination threats, sparked backlash.
According to NINE, the two-minute video posted by Tasnim gave directions of how to target the first lady, giving away details of her favourite New York shopping locations and methods used by the Secret Service to protect her.
Video threatening Melania Trump
The video claims, “Melania’s obsession with fashion has become her greatest weakness.”
It then lists some of her purported favourite stores, listing their addresses before stating, “These places could be suitable for operations by global freedom fighters.”
The video then detailed how terrorists could poison clothes on the racks of the designer stores.
“To contaminate the clothes you can use the nerve agent VX, an oily, odourless and tasteless liquid,” the voice-over said. “(It) enters the body through skin contact and kills the prey after two and 18 hours.”
The video also identified members of her style team by name, claiming they might be tempted to betray her for money.
“This is just the beginning. Barron Trump, wait for us.” the video ended with a warning.
Tasnim News Agency is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the hardline paramilitary organisation with substantial influence in the Iranian regime.
Trump faces death threats
Melania has not been a specifically cited target of Iranian assassins, but her husband has repeatedly spoken of the threats on his life.
Earlier this month the US President Donald Trump said he had left instructions to escalate bombing of Iran in the event of his assassination.
Trump said, “I’ve been on their list for a long time. The only thing is, I’ve left instructions, if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before. I’m number 1 on the kill list for Iran. I’m on every single one of their lists, and so far I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long, because that’s the way it goes.”
It is worth noting, Melania has been keeping a relatively low profile during her husband’s second term in office.
