Apple is reportedly planning to develop its forthcoming smart glasses with a long-term vision of making them a health and fitness companion, although these capabilities are likely to be accessible in next year’s model.
As per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the Cupertino-based tech giant is currently exploring ways to diversify its health ecosystem beyond the Apple Watch by incorporating fitness features into future wearable devices.
Previously, Apple was planning to use the Vision Pro headset as a fitness platform via a dedicated version of Apple Fitness+, enabling Apple Fitness+, enabling users to follow workout sessions while tracking body movements.
Future health features still in development
A report suggested the Vision Pro concept included cutting-edge body-tracking technology to assess users’ movements during workouts.
However, Apple didn’t implement the idea because the headset's weight made it impractical for exercise.
Currently, the company is now reconsidering the thoughts by hiring specialists to assist develop future health, wellness and fitness experiences across its vision products.
Job listings suggest the company is looking for some experts who are capable of combining spatial computing, wearable technology.
Some credible analysts suggested Apple is likely to integrate heart-rate monitoring technology comparable to sensors expected in newer AirPods models.
However, further details regarding the features remain under wraps.
While Apple appears committed to diversifying its wearable health ecosystem, the report indicates these advanced fitness features will expectedly launch in later variants of the smart glasses instead of the initial release, meaning consumers may have to wait several years.
