Sowcar Janaki has breathed her last.
On Saturday, August 22, Indian Express reported that the legendary South Indian actress died at the age of 94 in Chennai after being briefly admitted in a hospital.
According to South Indian Artistes’ Association (Nadigar Sangam) president and actor Nassar, who confirmed the tragic news, shared that her cause of death was age-related complications.
“Legendary star Sowcar Janaki (94) passed away. Her mortal remains will be placed at Centoph Road, Teyampet, from 5 pm,” they said in a statement.
After her health issues worsened recently, the Babu Bangaram actress was rushed to Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet, Chennai, where she had been receiving intensive medical care until her passing.
As per the outlet, “Sowcar Janaki’s passing marks the end of one of the longest and most distinguished careers in Indian cinema. She was among the last surviving links to the golden age of South Indian filmmaking, an era that included titans like Sivaji Ganesan, N.T. Rama Rao, A. Nageswara Rao and Dr. Rajkumar, all of whom she shared the screen with at various points in her career, which began in 1950 with LV Prasad’s 1950 Telugu film Shavukaru.”

On Instagram, fans expressed sadness over Sowcar Janaki’s death, as one of them commented. “Deeply pained on the passing of the legendary actress Sowcar Janaki amma. Megastar Sridevi worked with her in several films.”
