Scottie Scheffler capped off an incredible season by winning the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club with a final-round 66. The victory secured him the FedExCup title and earned him a massive $10 million top prize.
Overtaking a golf legend
With his latest win, Scheffler officially surpassed Tiger Woods to become the all-time career money leader on the PGA Tour. Woods had held the top spot on the earnings list for 26 years since February 2000.
Scheffler’s career earnings now stand at $130,390,661, pushing him past Woods’ total of $120,999,166.
Reflecting on the format
Following the updated tournament structure, Scheffler noted the extra validation of winning with the lowest 72-hole score.
Speaking about the course setup, Scheffler remarked, “having a real tournament to finish the year where I’m the winner and I am the lowest score at East Lake feels a bit more of an accomplishment.”
Dominating the competition
Scheffler held off strong performances from Viktor Hovland, who finished second and Ryan Gerard, who took third. Reflecting on the pressure of maintaining top form throughout the season, Scheffler stated:
“To play with the lead in a golf tournament is hard enough and to play with a lead in a golf tournament for essentially six months is even more challenging.”
A season for the history books
The win highlights one of the most dominant runs in modern golf history. While Woods still holds the record for total PGA Tour victories, Scheffler’s rapid rise to the top of the money list in just seven seasons marks a major milestone for the sport.
