Canadian professional wrestling legend Paul LeDuc passed away at the age of 89. The news was confirmed by wrestling historian Pat Laprade, who shared the announcement on social media, stating:
“Sad news in the wrestling world. Former wrestler and promoter Paul Leduc, one half of the famous Leduc Brothers, passed away this morning at the age of 89.”
A storied tag team legacy
LeDuc began his career in 1957 and achieved fame alongside his storyline brother, Jos LeDuc (Michel Pigeon). Billed as lumberjack brothers, the pair was so convincing that fans believed they were real family members.
“The LeDuc’s were such an institution in Quebec that when it was revealed, following Jos’s death in 1999, that they were not brothers, a mini-scandal erupted.”
Together, they won multiple tag team title across Grand Prix Wrestling, NWA Florida and Stampede Wrestling.
Memorable moments and promotion work
Throughout his decades in the business, LeDuc was part of iconic Canadian wrestling moments. “He also famously married in the ring in Montreal in 1971 and competed against the Vachon Brothers in front of the largest crowd ever recorded for a wrestling event in Quebec City.”
Following his ring retirement in 1978, he launched his own wrestling promotion, FLQ, in 2000, which ran for over two decades.
Surviving family and tributes
LeDuc leaves behind a lasting legacy in the Canadian sports entertainment industry. Laprade offered his condolences to the family, adding, “My deepest sympathies go out to his sons, Carl and Yan, his daughter, Kim, and all his loved ones.”
His son, Carl LeDuc, followed in his father’s footsteps as a professional wrestler.
