Olivia Bromley has admitted that she would have preferred her Emmerdale character Dawn Fletcher to survive, despite the deeper understanding why producers selected the tragic ending.
In an interview with Duncan Lindsay for Metro, Olivia Bromley admitted “I’m not going to lie, I’d have preferred her to stay alive!”
Dawn was killed off after eight years on the ITV soap, just as her character seemed to be entering a joyful chapter with Joe Tate and their newborn baby.
Lindsay wrote that he had “caught up with the lady herself” to discuss her time on Emmerdale and what the future may hold.
Olivia wanted Dawn to stay alive
While discussing her exit, Bromley stated she would have loved the opportunity to play Dawn again in the future.
The Eyes of Marge star admitted that killing Dawn off was not how she would have written the character’s ending.
Bromley described the storyline as tragic but also recognised it as a significant exit that paves a new way for her, offering some more creative roles without having to keep the character in mind.
The 30-year-old jokingly stated she could return one day as Dawn’s twin, pointing out that soap characters have found unexpected ways back before.”
A new chapter after eight years
Broomley said leaving Emmerdale feels strange following spending so long playing the similar character.
She further admitted, "I wanted to go and do other things – I think most actors want to at some point when they've been playing a character for so long. But it was the producers' choice to do the storyline of Dawn's death, so as an actor, you just have to play with it.
The actress has expressed interest in gritty Northern dramas, fantasy projects and possibly returning to another soap.
Moreover, Olivia Bromley opened up about her passion for music and stated she would love to explore film and television composition.
