Kareena Kapoor Khan has opened up about her decision to collaborate with Meghna Gulzar, praising the filmmaker’s clear vision and confidence in what she wants.
In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the Crew star opened up about her first meeting with Gulzar, going through the script and what ultimately persuaded her to join the project.
Kareena said she is comfortable with both script readings and narrations, noting that she and Gulzar both read the script before moving forward.
Her admiration for Gulzar’s previous films, including Talvar, Raazi and Sam Bahadur, also influenced her decision to collaborate with her.
“I wanted to work with her. I’ve been watching Talvar, Raazi, Sam, all her films. So I was just like, I want to do something because I think I was also at a stage where I was looking to work with just a good, solid director, somebody who’s sure, and somebody like Magna, who I think is very sure of what she wants,” Kareena said.
The Jab We Met starlet also said she had grown tired of projects being promoted mainly for their entertainment value or box-office potential, echoing Gulzar’s view of not chasing money.
Kareena further questioned the industry's focus on commercial expectations, saying, “Because I have done a bit of films like that, and everybody says that, ‘Oh, this is amazing. This will be amazing, like comedy entertainment.’”
“So I’m like, but where are the directors and where are the scripts? Nobody talks about that,” she said.
“You know that you’re in good hands, and something that will shine through,” Kareena added.
She also emphasised that her age and career milestones would not shape her choice of projects, saying, “I want to be working and look amazing and do those parts even when I’m 75. I’ll still not be at any stage.”
Daayra is set to arrive in cinemas on September 18, 2026, bringing together Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran under Meghna Gulzar’s direction.
