Princess Anne has accepted an invitation to become the inaugural chancellor of City of Glasgow College.
The Princess Royal would be taking on the honorary role, described by the college as a "once-in-a-lifetime honour" and a "royal seal of approval" for the institution.
'Once-in-a-lifetime honour'
Dr Paul Little CBE, DL, principal and chief executive of City of Glasgow College, said, "It is a once-in-a-lifetime honour for City of Glasgow College that Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has accepted our invitation to become our inaugural chancellor."
"The Princess Royal’s knowledge, commitment, and public service make her such an inspirational figure for our students, apprentices, and staff," he added.
"We are deeply honoured that Her Royal Highness has accepted this prestigious role and are immensely proud that she will become our very first chancellor."
The statement continued, "At a time when maritime, shipbuilding, engineering and defence capability are of such sovereign importance to the UK, we have much to gain from her wise insight."
The Princess Royal's link with the City of Glasgow College
Princess Anne has a long-standing connection to the City of Glasgow College and has visited its Maritime Campus and legacy institutions on multiple occasions.
Her most recent visit was in November 2023.
The Princess Royal has an enduring and distinguished association with Scotland, the Merchant Navy, the Royal Navy, and Scottish maritime and engineering more generally.
Princess Anne attends King Harald's funeral
Moreover, the news about the princess being the inaugural chancellor came after Princess Anne attended the funeral of King Harald V of Norway at Oslo Cathedral on September 9, with Prince William.
The late Norwegian king was laid to rest 12 days after he passed away at the age of 89.
Representatives from several European royal houses and governments joined the new king, Haakon VIII, and the Norwegian royal family to bid farewell to the much-loved late monarch.
