US President Donald Trump has refused reports of any damage to American jets at a US military base in Jordan after missile strikes occurred by Iran.
While discussing the Iranian attacks on the facility, Trump told NewsNation, “There was no damage. There is absolutely no truth to the reports of damage to the US air base in Jordan.”
Iran launches retaliatory strikes at Jordan air base
The statement followed earlier reports that multiple US military aircraft were damaged at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan after Iranian retaliatory strikes.
CBS News correspondent Jennifer Jacobs, citing sources familiar with the situation, reported that several US military aircraft were damaged during the overnight attack.
A separate report citing a US official stated an A-10 Thunderbolt II and around eight F-15 fighter jets were damaged.
For those unaware, the F-15 aircraft reportedly suffered minor damage and were later returned to service. The reported attack occurred after US forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers, while Washington stated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had previously targeted a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles.
Iran launched ballistic missiles toward the US base in Jordan, prompting American forces to fire nearly 30 Patriot interceptor missiles, as per US official.
However, Trump’s refusal is a contradictory statement to the US media and officials about the damage to aircraft at the Jordanian base.
