Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max and Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra are considered two of the biggest flagship smartphones of 2026, bringing a variety of cutting-edge features, with powerful processors, advanced cameras, large displays and premium features.
While both phones target high-end users, they take different approaches to performance, battery life, photography, software and customization.
Design and performance
The iPhone 18 Pro Max consists of a 6.9-inch 120Hz OLED display and Apple’s A20 chipset, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra utilizes a 6.9-inch QHD+ AMOLED display, offering an immersive visual experience with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.
As per Android Central’s testing, the Cupertino-based tech giant’s A20 is at least 20% faster and can deliver up to 40% improved gaming performance.
Battery performances
Apple gives the iPhone 18 Pro Max a larger battery, ranging from 5,391mAh to 5,567mAh depending on the model, in contrast to the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 5,000mAh battery.
The iPhone is able to reach 50% charge in 15 minutes during testing, while Samsung’s phone reached 41%.
Camera
In terms of camera performance, Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 48MP main camera with a 48MP ultrawide and a 48MP 4x telephoto camera.
Meanwhile, the South-Korean tech giant provides a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto and 50MP 5x periscope camera, offering it a greater long-range zoom capability.
Software and features
The Galaxy S26 Ultra runs Android 16 with One UI 8.5 and includes an S Pen, extensive customization options and seven years of software updates.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max runs iOS 27 and offers deeper incorporation with Apple’s ecosystem, although it is less customizable than Android.
The iPhone emphasises on performance, battery capacity and camera features, while Samsung focuses customization, stylus functionality and zoom photography.
Which one you should buy depend on the choice between the two ultimately depends on the features and ecosystem each user prefers.
