WhatsApp is reportedly experimenting with a redesigned bottom navigation bar for its Android app, launching a floating interface with rounded corners.
The significant update aims to offer the app a more modern appearance while making navigation between its main sections easier.
The feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.38.10 and remains under development, which remains available to beta testers.
The redesigned navigation bar shares some similarities with the tab bar used in WhatsApp’s iOS app. Its floating layout and rounded edges follow a similar design direction.
However, the Meta-owned WhatsApp is not likely to directly copy the iOS version. The Android app follows its own design guidelines, and the company may utilize a different approach to elements such as transparency and visual effects.
The new navigation bar is being tested in both light and dark themes, although the changes are more noticeable in the light theme.
WhatsApp prepares to release more updates
The company may persist in modifying the navigation bar ahead of its public release. WhatsApp has yet to confirm what additional changes could be launched or when the redesigned interface will reach regular users.
The messaging platform has recently been making several Android interface changes, including new chat themes and customization options.
The redesigned navigation bar is likely to be released in a future WhatsApp Android update; however, there is currently no confirmed launch date.
Since the WhatsApp's new feature remains under development, its final appearance could change before wider rollout.
