Girls is heading back to HBO, with creator Lena Dunham setting a revival of the hit comedy-drama that will see original stars.

As reported by Variety, the series will return for a limited, five-episode run with production beginning in 2027 — a decade after the Season 6 finale.

In addition to Dunham, original cast members Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells are all returning for the new season.

Apatow is back on board as an executive producer through Apatow Productions, alongside Dunham and Good Thing Going partners Ilene S. Landress and Michael P. Cohen.

Williams, Kirke, Mamet and Rannells will also take on co-executive producer roles.

First airing on HBO in 2012, Girls rapidly gained popularity, winning over critics and securing accolades across the awards circuit.

Despite ending in 2017, the series has cemented its place in television history, featuring on all-time-greatest TV lists published by The Guardian, Variety, BBC, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.

“We always said we would only return to ‘Girls’ if there was a specific story we were burning to tell,” Dunham said in a statement.

She added, “I’ve missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn’t quite picture them in the present day. Then, right around my fortieth birthday, they started talking to me in the shower. And, as you may remember, once this fivesome starts talking it’s pretty hard to get them to stop… It’s rare that you get the chance to return to something that changed your life with the gift of hindsight and a whole new level of gratitude and understanding. I love these girls (and boy), our friends at HBO and all the people who have continued to discover the show and remind us afresh why we do this, which is the joy of being together… and the chance to wear yellow mesh…”

Dunham has repeatedly voiced her willingness to bring Girls back over the years.
