Bill Gates' ex-wife Melinda Gates has decided to step down from her role as co-chair from their longtime self-titled foundation, marking a significant shift in their long-standing partnership.
In a statement released on Monday, Melinda expressed her pride in the foundation's work but revealed her decision to resign soon, noting, "After careful thought and reflection, I have decided to resign from my role as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. My last day of work at the foundation will be June 7th."

She continued, "This is not a decision I came to lightly. I am immensely proud of the work the foundation that Bill and I built together and of the extraordinary work it is doing to address inequities around the world."
Melinda further added," I care deeply about the foundation team, our partners around the world, and everyone who is touch by its work."
Meanwhile, Melinda expresses confidence in the leadership of CEO Mark Suzman and the board of trustees as she departs from the foundation.
She emphasizes her commitment to supporting women and girls globally, stating, "This is a critical moment for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world and those fighting to protect and advance equality are in urgent need of support."
Moreover, under the terms of her agreement with Bill Gates, Melinda will walk away with an additional $12.5 billion to dedicate to new charities and organizations.
This move comes after her divorce from Bill Gates several years ago, making her one of the wealthiest women globally.
Additionally, the foundation, established in 2000, has been a key player in global philanthropy, investing in various causes such as vaccine development, nutrition, health, and education equity.
While, Melinda's resignation marks the end of an era and signifies the official conclusion of her partnership with Bill Gates.
Furthermore, the foundation is now changing its name to simply the Gates Foundation.
