Australian star leg-spinner says he wants to prioritise mental and physical health

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa said he withdraw from the Indian Premium League (IPL) to focus on the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Zampa was all set to join the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 17th edition of the IPL.

Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast this week, Zampa revealed, “There are several reasons why the IPL wasn’t for me this year. The most important one was the fact that it’s a World Cup year, and I’m completely drained from 2023. I did the full IPL last year. Obviously, the World Cup was three months in India as well. So I had the best intentions of trying to play the IPL again this year.”

He explained, “But once push came to shove, I felt like I just couldn’t really offer the Rajasthan Royals the best version of myself and looking forward to the World Cup, that’s what’s more important to me.”

Zampa also mentioned that he want to priotise his family and body at the moment, “So I kind of worked out that maybe just to rest, putting my family first, putting my body first, was better for me.”

Moreover, he also said that pulling out from the IPL was ‘not an easy decision’ for him.

According to the ICC, Zampa had featured in for the RR in the last IPL season 2023, where he took 8 wickets with an average of 23.5 and a strike rate of 16.5.
