A senior U.S. official called on China and Russia to align with the United States and other nations that only humans and not artificial intelligence, would make decisions on deploying nuclear weapons.

As reported by Reuters, State Department arms control official Paul Dean told in an online briefing on Thursday, that Washington had made a "clear and strong commitment" that humans had total control over nuclear weapons, adding that France and Britain had done the same.

Dean added, "We would welcome a similar statement by China and the Russian Federation.”

Referring to the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council he further said, “We think it is an extremely important norm of responsible behaviour and we think it is something that would be very welcome in a P5 context.”

Dean's comments come as President Joe Biden's administration aims to have more talks with China about nuclear weapons and artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, the Chinese defense did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

However, the spread of artificial intelligence technology surfaced during sweeping talks between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on April 26.

After that, they agreed to have their first talks on this topic soon, focusing on how to make the technology more safer.
