In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, a disturbing incident unfolded late Friday night as Pakistani students became victims of mob violence.

In this unfortunate incident, at least five injuries resulted, as reported by Pakistani officials on Saturday.

The Pakistani Embassy in Bishkek stated that while there were no confirmed deaths, the situation remains deeply concerning.

Meanwhile, the incident occurred following a brawl between foreign students, including Pakistanis and Egyptians, a few days prior.

While, tensions escalated after videos of the altercation circulated on social media, with locals perceiving it as a breach of hospitality.

As reported by multiple outlets, the violence targeted hostels of medical universities and private residences housing international students, particularly those from Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh.

However, the Kyrgyz health ministry reported 29 injuries from the violence, with 14 foreigners discharged after receiving treatment.

On the other hand, Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch shared in an update on X (formerly Twitter) that five Pakistanis had been injured, one of whom suffered a jaw injury.

Earlier, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed deep concern over the situation on his social media account X, noting, “We have established contact with the Kyrgyz authorities to ensure the protection of Pakistani students.”

He further added, “I have instructed our Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan to fully facilitate them.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement that his office was in touch with the Pakistani Embassy and "constantly monitoring the situation".

"Deeply concerned over the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I have directed Pakistan’s Ambassador to provide all necessary help and assistance," the PM wrote on X.

Moreover, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Almaz conveyed assurances to the Pakistani ambassador, pledging legal action against the perpetrators and asserting that the situation was under control.

However, with at least 12,000 Pakistani students studying in Kyrgyzstan, the need for swift and decisive action to safeguard their well-being remains paramount.
