Google responds to criticism on covering up Trump assassination attempt news

Republicans have highlighted that Google’s search is covering up news reports regarding the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.

According to Newsweek, the search engine’s autocomplete feature is not showing results for the shooting at Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.

After widespread criticism, Google has said that ‘we are working on improvements.’

When users entered ‘assassination attempt of Tr', results did not come up on Google instead, the results featured reports about the attempted assassination of former president Harry S. Truman in 1950.

The spokesperson for Google told Newsweek, “We are working on improvements to ensure our systems are more up-to-date.”

The spokesperson also made all the allegations of ‘manual action’ and said that the system has protection against the predictions regarding political violence and that they are ‘working as intended prior to this horrific event occurring’ in Pennsylvania.

A Google representative further added, “Of course, Autocomplete is just a tool to help people save time, and they can still search for anything they want to. Following this terrible act, people turned to Google to find high-quality information—we connected them with helpful results and will continue to do so."

To note, GOP members accused Google of trying to ‘interfere’ in the presidential elections by ‘suppressing’ search results related to their party nominee, Trump.
