Government officials have issued an alert for vulnerable people, and meteorologists are predicting it will be the hottest day of the year so far.

As per The New York Times, temperatures in London and along the southern and eastern coastlines are expected to reach nearly 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius).

This heatwave is unusual for Britain, where the summer has been notably cool and rainy.

The Met Office, Britain’s national weather service, warned that much of the UK is entering a hot spell, with some areas likely to meet heatwave criteria.

Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow alert, indicating that while most people will not be affected, those who are particularly vulnerable could be at risk.

Meteorologist Alex Burkill from the Met Office warned that Tuesday night would be warm and sticky, with temperatures remaining around the mid-60s Fahrenheit.

He also predicted that Wednesday would see temperatures climb again to the high 80s Fahrenheit, with a chance of thunderstorms.

Scientists emphasise that while individual heatwaves require specific analysis to link to climate change, the overall trend is clear as heatwaves are becoming hotter, more frequent, and longer due to human-caused climate change.
