Kareena Kapoor and Dhanush could be set to share the screen in a new Hindi film backed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Speculation over the Jab We Met starlet starring in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film has been circulating for some time.
Dhanush and Kareena were previously reported to be in advanced talks for the Hindi project, which Bhansali will produce and P.S. Mithran will direct.
While promoting Sardar 2, P.S. Mithran spoke to Cinema Vikatan about the much-awaited film with Kareena Kapoor and Dhanush, “Talks are underway, we are looking at the dates for confirmation. Hopefully, something good will come out of it."
As per reports, this will be a large-scale mythological jungle adventure.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the film is still in the writing stage, with the script going through several rewrites before being finalised.
The makers are likely to kick off pre-production in November 2026, with cameras expected to roll in January 2027.
The film would also see Kareena reunite professionally with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the first time since their reported fallout in the early 2000s.
Moreover, it would also mark Mithran’s first Hindi-language directorial outing and the first time Dhanush and Kareena share the screen.
Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali rift
In the early 2000s, Bhansali had approached Kareena for Devdas, and she even underwent a screen test before Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was eventually cast as Paro.
In a chat with Filmfare in 2002, Kareena said, “What he did to me was wrong. He screen-tested me for Devdas, gave me a signing amount, then took someone else. That was wrong, it hurt especially because I was at the start of my career.”
According to Bhansali, Kareena had reached out to him about the role, while the screen test did not mean she was certain to land it.
Kareena will next appear in Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar and co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, with the film set to release on September 18.
