The Office star Lucy Davis has officially made her first public appearance following the revelation of stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis, expressing gratitude towards fans for their support.
On August 22, Lucy appeared at the For The Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention at London’s Excel, where she greeted her fans, humbly signed autographs and clicked some pictures together.
She later joined Shaun of the Dead stars Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright for a panel.
Davis, best known for playing Dawn Tinsley in Ricky Gervais’ The Office, spoke warmly about the support she has received from fans.
“It’s like this whole second family you never knew you had,” she stated, describing the community as friendly and supportive. “We need a bit more niceness in the world, so I’m grateful.”
Lucy David stage 4 cancer diagnosis
On Tuesday, August 11, the actress shared her Instagram account to reveal that she has "incurable" stage 4 cancer.
"I wanted to share something with you all that I've kept to myself for a while but for various reasons would like to share now," Davis noted, adding that she got to know about her health condition a year and a half ago.
She shared that cancer has spread to her bones, "specifically to my spine, right hip and my ribs. The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo".
Despite her diagnosis, Davis has maintained a positive outlook and stated humour has assisted her cope. She has also asked friends and family to treat her normally instead of focusing on her illness.
Moreover, she stated she continues to look for “teachable moments” in the experience, adding that there is much she has learned from it.
