In his upcoming book about Princess Diana, her brother Charles Spencer recalled a heated phone call he exchanged with King Charles shortly after her death.
King Charles III allegedly told Princess Diana's brother that she would be forgotten "soon enough" in a horrific phone call following her death in 1997.
First-ever preview of 'Swan Song: Diana, My Sister'
On Wednesday, September 16, the Daily Mail published the first preview of Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, in which the 9th Earl Spencer shared the monarch alleged "pent-up contempt" for the then-Princess of Wales was revealed after her death in a Paris car crash.
"He unleashed down the phone what I have always taken to be his pent-up contempt for Diana, and his horror that the world was so bowled over by her death,"Spencer claimed, per the Daily Mail.
"'Rest assured,'" he hissed, 'we'll forget her soon enough!'" read the preview.
Spencer recalled Charles' alleged remarks and being too "stunned" to respond.
"I can't believe you just said that," Spencer told Charles before hanging up the phone.
When was the alleged phone call between King Charles and Charles Spencer happened?
The phone call allegedly took place when the Earl and the then-Prince Charles were discussing whether Prince William and Prince Harry, then ages 15 and 12, would walk behind her coffin in the funeral procession.
Spencer said he was against the idea after being informed by a royal aide, and then he recalled receiving a phone call from Prince Charles.
According to the outlet, Spencer's book will also dive into Diana's marriage, and will also explores the pair's failed marriage, including extramarital affairs leading up to their divorce in 1996, one year before she died.
Did Prince Harry and Prince William attend Princess Diana's funeral procession?
Despite their uncle disapproval, William and Harry, along with Charles and Prince Philip, joined Spencer during the funeral procession.
Both Prince William and Prince Harry confirmed in the BBC's 2017 documentary Diana, 7 Days that it was a "group decision" for them to join their mother's funeral procession, with William saying, "It wasn't an easy decision, and it was a collective family decision to do that."
Earl Spencer's new book stolen in the Netherlands
The bombshell preview came after it was reported that the highly-anticipated new book has been stolen in the Netherlands just days before its release.
As per the recent report, multiple copies of Charles Spencer's upcoming memoir had been stolen in a lorry robbery in the Netherlands, with the Dutch authorities launched an investigation.
Thieves took four copies of the memoir, which had been concealed in black plastic wrapping, after the lorry was parked overnight while travelling from a Central European printer to a distribution warehouse.
Notably, Charles Spencer's tell-all memoir will be released on September 22.
