During the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a confident statement asserting, "The word 'nervousness' is not in my dictionary."

General elections are currently being held in India from 19 April to 1 June 2024 in seven phases, to elect 543 members of the Lok Sabha. The votes are being counted, and the results will be declared on 4 June 2024.

According to News18, in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, the day of filing his nomination, Prime Minister said he was confident of winning the Lok Sabha elections as 140 crore Indians are fighting on his behalf because they feel connected to him.

When asked why he was confident of a victory, Modi said, "Firstly, the word nervousness is not in my dictionary. Secondly, I have done jeevan tapasya (penance in my life). Every minute, I have worked hard for the country. I have not worked for myself. I have worked day and night for people because I know they deserve better."

He added, "Injustice has been done to them for 60-70 years. When someone wipes their tears, builds toilets for them, they can’t forget it. During the Covid crisis, we did not let the kitchen fires go out, did not let their children sleep hungry."

When asked why these polls were so important for him, Modi said, "Any poll should be important. In every person’s life, every day and every moment should be important."

He continued, "Modi is not fighting this election. The 140 crore people of India are fighting this poll. I have seen people’s emotions…I am very experienced when it comes to elections. I have seen people’s mood and experience. This situation has gone beyond the polls."

Modi further said," It is not like a contract where the work is done after voting. They are attached to Modi and want to stay connected with Modi. They think the country has seen models of various governments, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a model which includes modern India’s resolve and dreams."

He concluded, "It has space for basic human needs, which people were waiting for 70-75 years after Independence, which they thought they would easily get after achieving freedom…Modi is doing the work of giving it to them."
