A Nepali climber, Kami Rita Sherpa, made a world record for climbing the summit of Mount Everest for the 30th time on Wednesday, May 22.

According to Reuters, it took climbers several days to climb the world’s tallest peak of, Everest, while very rare mountaineers make multiple ascents in a short period of time.

As per Nepali tourism official Khim Lal Gautam, 54-year-old Rita reached the 8,849-metre (29,032-foot) peak by the traditional southeast ridge route.

Rita first climbed Everest in 1994; however, he had climbed the summit for the 29th time on May 12, 2024.

Gautam, chief of the expedition monitoring field office at the base camp, wrote in a post on X, “(He) broke his own record ... this marks his 30th ascent to the top of the world."

Nepal tourism officials also informed that a British climber and a Nepali guide have been missing since Tuesday, May 21, after they slipped and fell near the South Summit in the mountain's "death zone", where oxygen is very sparse on their way down after reaching the summit.

It is worth knowing that Nepal is the home of eight of the world's fourteen highest peaks.
