Elon Musk, Tesla and SpaceX head has sparked a new controversy by claiming that WhatsApp exports user data every night.

In a recent post on X (previously Twitter), the tech giant alleged, “WhatsApp exports your user data every night. Some people still think it is secure.”

Musk’s claim has raised so many questions about the safety and privacy of using WhatsApp. However, WhatsApp has not responded to the X owner’s remarks yet.

Whereas WABetaInfo, a website that provides information about the latest updates of WhatsApp responded to his allegation.

WABetaInfo wrote, “It's easy to blame WhatsApp when you have a product to promote, like the X messaging app and its end-to-end encryption. This is the main reason why Elon Musk repeatedly shares misinformation regarding WhatsApp."

It explained, “WhatsApp does not share user data every night to create advertisements. It's simply the local backup feature on Android, which always stays on your device. People can verify this by using a network traffic analysis tool to check their HTTP requests.”

Additionally, earlier this month, Musk also criticised Meta for its advertising practices. He said, “Yeah, we are terrible at claiming credit and Meta is super greedy at claiming credit. There is a major class action lawsuit against Meta for their false claims.”
