A tragic fire at a children’s hospital in New Delhi resulted in the deaths of six newborn babies on Saturday night, according to local officials.

As per CNN, Atul Garg, chief of Delhi Fire Services, reported that twelve newborns were rescued from the blaze. Sadly, six of the babies did not survive.

Among the rescued, one baby is in serious condition while the other five are receiving medical care.

However, authorities have not yet identified the rescued babies due to missing birth records, which might have been destroyed in the fire.

The fire services received a call about the fire at 11:32 p.m local time and nine fire trucks were rushed to the site.

Meanwhile, the fire reportedly started in a neighbouring building, but the exact cause remains unknown.

Video footage showed flames consuming both the ground and upper floors of the hospital.

Moreover, this incident echoes a similar tragedy in 2021, when ten newborns died in a hospital fire in Maharashtra.
