Novak Djokovic reacts to Andy Murray's tearful goodbye to Olympics


Andy Murray bids a tearful goodbye to the Olympics after losing the doubles quarterfinal against America on Thursday, August 1 at Ronald Garros.

According to BBC, American pair Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul beat Great Britain duo Murray and Dan Evans, 6-2, 6-4, on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

Three-time Grand Slam title winner who had already announced that this was his last Olympics burst into tears after the match ended.

Murray’s emotional goodbye made the packed crowd emotional and overwhelmed. Thousands of fans started chanting his name to show their love for him.

Murray’s mother, Judy, was also present in the crowd, applauding for his son.

Two-time Olympic gold medallist said, “Obviously, it was emotional because it's the last time I will play a competitive match. But I am genuinely happy just now. I'm happy with how it finished.”

Novak Djokovic, whom Murry called ‘rival, doubles partner, friend, and lovers’ paid tribute to fellow tennis star, saying, “I have only praise for him. He’s been an incredible competitor out on the court and one of the greatest warriors tennis has seen. His fighting spirit is something that will inspire many generations to come. I've been inspired by him even though we're the same age."

Spain's Carlos Alcaraz said it was a pleasure to share the court with you. He wrote, “Congratulations on a legendary career and for being an example to all. You will always have a fan here.”

Dan Evan, his doubles partner, joked that he ‘could not stomach’ Murry’s statue going up at Wimbledon, adding, “He will have one in Scotland somewhere and probably Wimbledon. He deserves to be a ‘sir', I’ll say that much.”
