Jeremy Renner revealed that he inundated Robert Downey Jr. with calls following the announcement of Downey's role as Doctor Doom at Comic-Con.

While conversing with US Weekly, the Wind River star disclosed that he "had no idea" that his pal and colleague actor will be playing a villain in the next Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

Renner, said, "This son of a bitch didn't say anything to me, and we're good friends."

The Marvel actor claimed that he "started blowing up [Downey's] phone" in their original Avengers group conversation, which also featured Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Hemsworth, after discovering the casting news online.

Renner stated, “I’m like, ‘What’s going on? Are you hiding this from us?’ I don’t know,” adding, “That’s exciting news, man. I’m really, really excited about it.”

When asked if fans may anticipate seeing him reprise his role as Hawkeye in the upcoming Avengers films, Renner stayed evasive but left the possibility open.

“It seems the Avenger movies have always been really fan favorites and there’s so many wonderful characters in them. I think it’s going to be challenging to get everybody together,” the actor confessed.

He added, “I think they’re going to probably have to piece it together like week-by-week, just for people’s schedules.”

Renner mentioned, “I’m excited about it. We’ll see. I think we’ll probably be doing it. We’ll have to figure it out. It’s all brand new. It all just happened. They just made the announcement, so I guess we got to start figuring it all out.”

To note, at the San Diego comic-con on Saturday, Downey shocked attendees by revealing he would be playing Victor von Doom.
