Philip Doyle has secured a bronze medal in the men’s rowing double sculls at the Paris Olympics, marking the fourth medal win for athletes from Northern Ireland.

Doyle, from Banbridge, and his rowing partner Daire Lynch clocked a time of 6:15.17, finishing behind gold medalists Romania and the Netherlands.

Doyle's achievement adds to Northern Ireland’s historic success at these Games, with Daniel Wiffen, Jack McMillan, and Hannah Scott also earning medals.

Just 20 minutes after Doyle’s win, Rebecca Shorten clinched silver in the women’s four boat for Great Britain.

In the final, Doyle and Lynch started in fifth place but surged in the last 500 meters to overtake the United States and secure their bronze by less than two seconds. This performance was a significant comeback for Doyle, who had felt disappointed with his previous Tokyo Games results.

The medal is Ireland's third of the Games, following victories by swimmers Wiffen and Mona McSharry.

Doyle and Shorten’s recent wins highlight Northern Ireland’s strong showing in rowing and swimming over the past 24 hours.
