Ismail Haniyeh's funeral draws thousands in Qatar, showcasing solidarity with Palestine

Hamas leader's funeral prayers were held in Doha’s Imam Muhammad ibn Abdul al-Wahhab Mosque


Thousands of people gathered in the Imam Muhammad ibn Abdul al-Wahhab Mosque in Qatar's capital Doha on Friday, August 2, to pay their last tribute to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

According to Al Jazeera, Haniyeh’s funeral prayers were held after the Friday, whereas he was buried in the north of Doha, Lusail.

There were tight security measures at the National Mosque of Qatar.

The atmosphere was one of grief and solidarity for the Palestinians in Gaza. Hundreds and hundreds of people were wearing keffiyeh with ‘Free Palestine’ written on it.

Haniyeh's first public funeral was held in Iran's capital, Tehran, where he was assassinated at his residence on Wednesday, July 31.

Thousands of Iranians attended the large public funeral procession for Hamas leaders while the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, led the funeral prayers at Tehran University.

After which his coffin was transported to Qatar for burial.

Moreover, other Muslim countries including Turkey, Lebanon, Yemen, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Indonesia held commemorations for Haniyeh.

Hamas also called for a ‘day of furious rage’ at the time of Haniyeh's funeral and called for ‘roaring anger marches from every mosque’ after Friday prayers as a protest against the Hamas chief’s assassination.
