Hurricane Milton triggers deadly tornadoes, storms, and floods in Florida

Over 3 million homes across Florida lost power due to the third-worst hurricane of the year

Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida as a category three hurricane with winds of 120 mph before striking the coastal areas.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Milton made landfall on Siesta Key in Sarasota County around 8:30 pm local time on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Sky News reported.

The third-worst storm of the year in Florida has triggered tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and floods. Although the storm has weakened to category one, it is still causing devastating destruction.

Moreover, as per poweroutage.us, more than 3 million households and businesses have lost power across Florida, including Hardee County with 97%, and Manatee County with 85% of the customers out of power.

Florida officials are waiting for daylight to witness the damage caused by Hurricane Milton across the state.

Tampa City Council Chairman Guido Maniscalco told CNN on Thursday morning, “We don’t know what we’re going to see when it’s daylight here. The wind is terrifying, I’ve never heard anything like it, and I’ve been in Tampa my whole life.”

To note, deaths have also been reported in St. Lucie County on Florida’s eastern coast, after a tornado ripped through a mobile home retirement community. However, the number of casualties is not confirmed yet.
