The Dominican Republic nightclub deadly roof collapse has claimed over 100 lives.
According to CNN, search efforts continued on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, after at least 113 people, including two former Major League Baseball players, died at the Jet Set nightclub.
The roof of an iconic Dominican Republic nightclub in the capital of Santo Domingo collapsed early on Tuesday at around 1 a.m. during the performance of merengue artist Rubby Pérez and his orchestra.
As per the authorities, there were at least 300 people inside the club at the time of the incident, and around 155 people are in the hospital.
Juan Manuel Méndez, director of the Emergency Operations Centre, on Tuesday night said, “We continue clearing debris and searching for people. We’re going to search tirelessly for people.”
As per Méndez and Dotel’s foundation, former baseball player Octavio Dotel, who was also among the dead, took his last breath on his way to the hospital after being rescued alive from the rubble.
Meanwhile, MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred and the Dominican Sports Ministry confirmed the death of Tony Blanco, another former league player.
The families of the missing people on Tuesday morning gathered outside the club with the collapsed roof with pictures of their loved ones as rescue workers continued their efforts.
