French President Emmanuel Macron is all set to appoint a new prime minister for the country within two days after last-ditch talks with Sebastien Lecornu.

According to Al Jazeera, the president's office on Wednesday, October 8, announced that Macron will name the new prime minister within the next 48 hours after two days of meeting with the party leaders and outgoing PM Sebastien Lecornu amid a deepening political crisis in France.

Lecornu told French television that appointing a new premier will be the right decision to solve the crisis, rather than holding early elections or the resignation of the president.

He told the outlet, “I tried everything (to deal with the crisis). This evening, my mission is finished,” adding, “(It is) not the time to change the president. Let’s not make the French believe that it’s the president who votes on the budget.”

Furthermore, the presidential office said that discussion with the parties revealed that most of the lawmakers did not want snap elections but wanted political stability to pass a budget by the end of the year.

The Elysee presidential office stated, “On this basis, the President of the Republic will appoint a Prime Minister within the next 48 hours.”

The political crisis in France got worse after Lecornu, the fifth prime minister of the country in less than two years, resigned on Monday, October 6, less than a month before the short Wednesday deadline to resolve the budget crisis.
