Queen Camilla has taken a new honour amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first ever joint UK trip hit with major setback.
As the chatter and uncertainty around the return of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet intensifies – senior royals continue to celebrate new milestones.
As per an official announcement on Monday, June 29, Camilla became the Royal Patron of Brontë Birthplace – a museum and educational centre where the Brontë sisters were born.
Who were The Brontë sisters?
Charlotte, Emily, and Anne popularly known as the The Brontë sisters – were among the renowned English authors of the 19th-century.
They were born and raised in between 1816 and 1820 in an isolated Yorkshire parsonage, a house on Market Street, which is now under public ownership and widely known as the Brontë Birthplace museum.
The sister are celebrated for their work on some of the most influential novels of Victorian literature.
They were known for an emotional depth in their writing and passionate prose.
Queen Camilla became the pattern of the museum exactly one year after opening The Brontë Birthplace in Thornton, Bradford, in May 2025.
The museum was opened to the public for the first time in its 200-year history following a fundraising campaign.
Brontë Birthplace chairman Cathy Boyden breaks silence on Queen Camilla’s appointment
In an official statement Cathy noted, "Her Majesty's patronage is a wonderful endorsement of what has been achieved so far and gives us great encouragement as we look to the future."
"Our first year has been a remarkable journey, made possible by the dedication of volunteers, supporters, members, funders and visitors who believed in the vision of bringing this historic building back to life,” she added.
Royal Family’s reaction on Queen Camilla’s new honour
As per Royal Family’s spokesperson, having a Royal Patron "provides vital publicity for the work of these organisations, and allows their enormous achievements and contributions to society to be recognised and promoted".
An insider also claimed that the museum since its opening last year has welcomed "thousands of visitors from across the UK and around the world".
This exciting update came just hours after Harry’s spokesperson released an official statement on behalf of the Duke, reacting to the UK government’s decision to not provide him and his family state security amid UK visit next month.
Prince Harry issues official statement on UK security setback just days before arrival with Family
“Prince Harry’s programme in the United Kingdom includes both public and private engagements across the country,” noted the spokesperson.
They continued, “Safe accommodation is only one element of an effective protective security plan because risk follows the person, not the place. The issue has never been accommodation. The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security is being provided throughout the entirety of the visit.”
“The independent Risk Management Board that RAVEC itself decided was necessary last November has still not taken place,” added the official.
They also explained that “It is therefore difficult to understand how the proportionality of the current arrangements can credibly be maintained without that independent assessment.”
Before concluding his argument, the spokesperson added, “The Duke continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK.”
