Prince Albert has released an official statement to express his thoughts over the shocking explosion that rocked Monaco.
Taking to the Instagram handle of the Monegasque Royal Family on Tuesday, June 30, the reigning prince of the Principality of Monaco issued a formal statement, expressing “deepest sympathy and unwavering support” to the families of the victims who were affected by the “criminal explosion.”
Prince Albert calls for ‘united and resolute’ Monaco after explosion
In his official press release, Prince Albert II stated, “The criminal explosion that occurred this evening in Monaco has shocked the entire Monegasque community. My thoughts are first and foremost with the victims, their families, and the residents directly affected by this heinous act. Princess Charlene, my family, and I wish to express our deepest sympathy and unwavering support.”
“We also commend the remarkable work of the public security forces, who are managing the situation with rigor and composure, ensuring the swift care of the victims and the securing of the area,” he continued.
The 68-year-old prince went on to note that the government had mobilized all relevant state services, which were working alongside the French authorities.
He also expressed confidence that the investigation would quickly determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, identify those responsible, and ensure the appropriate response at every level.
“Now more than ever, the Principality of Monaco will remain united and resolute in the face of violence and crime. The security of our community has always been a priority; it will remain so more than ever, regardless of the threats. H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco,” concluded the statement.
Explosion in Monaco
On Tuesday, June 30, AP News reported that a blast from an explosive device resulted in three people being seriously injured at a residential building in Monaco.
Authorities said the suspected attacker fled to France, while French and Ukrainian media identified the victims as Ukrainian businessman and members of his family.
Speaking to the reporters, Minister of State Chritophe Mirmand said that both French and Monaco authorities are searching for the attacker, who motive is under investigation.
Noting that is was “very likely an attack,” Mirmand stated, "This is the first time in history, to my knowledge, that such an act has taken place in the principality.”
When did the blast occur?
The shocking blast reportedly occurred around 9 pm local time on Monday night, June 29, 2026, after a bag was left outside the building on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla, near the border with France.
Who is Prince Albert II?
Born on March 14, 1958, Albert II, whose full name is Albert Alexandre Louis Pierre Grimaldi, is the Prince of Monaco, reigning since 2005.
He is the second child and only son of Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace, and is married to Princess Charlene, with whom he shared twin children – Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.
