King Charles has been hit with a shocking blow ahead of his overseas trip.
In a major update, GB News reported on Sunday, August 30, that the British monarch faced a jaw-dropping snub by Antigua and Barbuda just two months before his upcoming visit to the country.
According to the report, the Caribbean nation has removed its oath of allegiance to King Charles, which means that the newly appointed officials will now no longer swear loyalty to the monarch or his successors and will pledge their commitment to the country, its laws, and its Constitution instead.
The major change was introduced in May, after Gaston Browne was re-elected as the country’s Prime Minister in April.
At the time when the law was passed, Antigua and Barbuda’s attorney general Sir Steadroy Benjamin said that the change was long overdue, noting, "We will once and for all finally not be swearing to His Majesty in England, his heirs and successors in England.”
The Caribbean nation gained independence from Britain more than four decades ago in 1981.
"You cannot be independent nor call yourself independent if you have a head of state so far away in a foreign land. He lives in a palace in London. We don't even have a palace here on our island. How can that be right?" an anonymous government official said to The Telegraph.
King Charles visit to Antigua and Barbuda
On August 26, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla will embark on an overseas trip in October.
“The King and Queen will undertake an Autumn Tour from Tuesday, 27th October to Wednesday, 4th November 2026. This will include Their Majesties’ attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026,” read the statement.
As per the description, the tour aims to celebrate communities, cultures and Nature within the Commonwealth family.
