Karan Johar is returning with his new directorial film after releasing the Alia Bhatt-starrer movie, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
The popular Indian filmmaker took to his Instagram account to announce his upcoming project, honouring the founder and first chief of India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW)
According to the new media reports, the film is based on Nitin Gokhale's book Gentleman Spymaster and is scheduled for worldwide cinema release in 2028.
A heartfelt nod to unseen hero
Paying a heartfelt tribute to the legendary hero who worked in the shadows, Karan stated in the caption, "He built the invisible…but history remembers his impact."
"Today marks 58 years of R&AW, and we’re thrilled to announce our film on the story of RN Kao, the man who operated in the shadows & brought to light an institution we know today as R&AW - and its first mission," the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai creator added.
He continued, explaining that the film will be based on the book Gentleman Spymaster by Nitin Gokhale; his story comes alive.
After Kesari, Raazi, SherShah, and Kesari: Chapter 2, Karan Johar is all set to bring forward the story of another unsung legend to the big screen.
Fans pick their male lead
As the surprise announcement made it to Gram, fans began flooding the comments section with their suggestions to cast the male lead.
Several insisted on casting Ranbir Kapoor, while many picked Shah Rukh Khan.
One said, "So this time, SRK or AK, who would you pick?"
"Cast RANBIR for this, please! He will kill it! And there are a few similarities in how they look!" another advised.
Another said, "Cast Kay Kay Menon only!!"
The upcoming spy drama is slated to be released on August 11th, 2028, as the film was announced on RAW's 58th birthday, since the spy agency was established on September 21st, 1968.
