Study finds that new exercise pills could provide the same benefits as working out

A new ‘exercise pill’ that could potentially replace some benefits of working out has been found, according to a new study.

The pills can replace ‘not all’ but some of the benefits of exercising, New York Post reported.

Researchers from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis presented their findings in the study to the American Chemical Society (ACS) at a spring meeting.

They expect the pills to replicate the physical effects of exercise, particularly the ability to enhance growth, metabolism and muscle performance.

The principal investigator of the project, Bahaa Elgendy, said in a media release, “We cannot replace exercise; exercise is important on all levels. If I can exercise, I should go ahead and get physical activity. But there are so many cases in which a substitute is needed.”

If the pills could successfully mimic the physical effects of exercise it could help to overcome muscle weakness that comes with aging, injury, or any other reason.

It could also help to find new ways of treating muscle atrophy and other medical conditions such as neurodegenerative disease and heart failure.

However, it is pertinent to mention that more testing is needed before making the pill available for the public.
