Sania Mirza is reportedly eyed as a candidate from Hyderabad, India, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to a report by MoneyControl, as the political landscape in Hyderabad gears for the upcoming elections, rumors emerged that tennis sensation Sania Mirza is potentially stepping into the Indian politics.
Mirza is said to be contesting on a Congress ticket against existing Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi.
Sources close to the Congress party have hinted at the party's interest in nominating Mirza as a potential candidate in the upcoming elections.
Report further suggested that the prospect of Mirza taking on Asaduddin Owaisi, who is the influential leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), has resulted in significant interest among young voters.
However, neither Mirza nor the Congress party has officially confirmed her candidacy.
These speculation emerged soon after Sania Mirza won the NDTV Indian of the Year award.
Taking to her Instagram account, Sania Mirza, celebrated her milestone with a picture, in which she could be seen beaming with joy while holding the accolade on the red carpet.
"An honor representing ‘The women of India ‘ as the Indian of the year at NDTV awards last night, such an absolute honor," Sania noted in the caption.
