Copenhagen's old stock exchange, a prominent landmark in the Danish capital, was struck by a fire on Tuesday that consumed its spire, causing it to collapse onto the roof.

As reported by Reuters, Denmark police confirmed that everyone inside the building was able to leave and no injuries were reported when the incident occurred.

While people rushed to rescue some of the paintings endeavouring to safeguard the historic artifacts from the encroaching flames.

The historic building, characterized by a spire resembling the tails of four intertwined dragons, was undergoing renovations when the fire erupted.

According to the Copenhagen fire department, emergency services faced challenges accessing the flames due to the scaffolding surrounding the building.

Additionally, the copper roof was exacerbating the situation by retaining heat.

Due to the fire, the nearby finance ministry was evacuated, as per the Denmark Police.

The building, styled in Dutch Renaissance architecture, no longer hosts the Danish stock exchange but is instead the headquarters for the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber of Commerce expressed dismay at the sight of the fire on their X account stating, "We are met by a terrible sight. The Bourse is on fire."

The cause of the blaze remained unknown at the time of the report.

However, Copenhagen police has advised people to avoid driving in the city's inner areas.

To note, the Danish Chamber of Commerce has owned the building since 1857, has worked on restoring it to the style of Denmark's King Christian IV, who constructed it in the 17th century.
